- Description
- Stroke is Australia's second leading cause of mortality, and a leading cause of disability. Every year Australians suffer 53000 new and recurrent strokes at a rate of one stroke every 10 minutes. The National Stroke Foundation of Australia coordinates the development of the Clinical Guidelines for Acute Stroke Management and the Clinical Guidelines for Rehabilitation and Recovery, both of which are approved by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) of Australia. This document provides a summary of the recently updated recommendations for adults in the acute phase of stroke care (defined as first 7 days) including people with transient ischaemic attack (TIA).
